The board of directors of NVIDIA announced an authorization of an additional $150 billion of share repurchases on September 28, 2026 (1).

  • This lifts the remaining buyback authorization to $235 billion, and the company expects to execute this through fiscal year 2028, which ends in January, 2027.
  • In the press release, NVIDIA called the increase "the largest share repurchase authorization increase in history."
  • The press release also quoted CEO Jensen Huang saying (1):
    • "NVIDIA’s growth is being driven by a once-in-a-generation platform shift to AI and accelerated computing"
    • "cash generation gives us the capacity to invest in the technologies that advance this transformation and return capital to shareholders. This authorization reflects our confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead"
  • Shares are up ~1% in premarket trading as of the time of this writing.
  • In July's 10-Q filing with the SEC, NVIDIA was authorized to repurchase up to $99.3 billion, after the board approved an additional $80.0 billion in May (2).
  • In the second quarter, the company bought back 94 million shares for $19.7 billion (2).
  • In the past year, NVIDIA's shares outstanding have decreased by about 1%, which indicates that buybacks are currently outpacing any dilution effect from share-based compensation.
