Given that our last financial year, which ended on the 28th of February, was truly outstanding, it's been remarkable to see this growth continue. So in the first half, yet again, we recorded record earnings. These results mark our fourth consecutive double-digit growth in revenue and profit at the half-year stage. In terms of numbers, Bloomsbury generated GBP 136.7 million in the six months ended 31st August 2023, which was up 11% on the same period last year, while profit also grew 11% to GBP 17.7 million. Our Consumer Division revenue grew by an exceptional 17% during that period. Over the last six months, Bloomsbury Digital Resources consolidated last year's outstanding growth and increased subscription revenue to 47%.
We remain on track to achieve our target of 40% organic revenue growth in BDR over the five years to February 2028. Our performance was driven by the strength and diversity of our publishing, which, uniquely among our competitors, includes both consumer and academic publishing. This year, though, in particular, has been an exceptional period for the Consumer Division. Fantasy has become extremely popular. This reflects a U.K.-wide trend, as according to Nielsen BookScan U.K.'s report, the fantasy and science fiction genre has grown by a staggering 54% in the last five years. Sales of Sarah J. Maas and Samantha Shannon, two of our most popular fantasy authors, grew 79% and 169%, respectively, in this period. Harry Potter sales also remain strong, showing real longevity, given that it's now 26 years since the first book in the series was published.
In our Adult division, we also recorded an impressive 8% revenue growth, driven by the strength of both the frontlist and the backlist. I mentioned our strategy of diversification. This is not only across publishing genres and channels, but also international markets. Overseas revenues now account for 76% of our group's total turnover, and the U.S. now accounts for 46% of the total as we look to expand our presence in the biggest academic market in the world. Bloomsbury Digital Resources remain a key focus, and we have set a new target of achieving a further 40% organic growth over the next five years, which we are on track to meet. We are also proactively targeting acquisitions, particularly in academic and professional.
We have significant firepower on the balance sheet and will look to invest in businesses which will be value accretive in bringing more cross-selling opportunities. We also have an exciting publishing list to look forward to in the second half, particularly in the run-up to this Christmas. Plenty. We are well known for our cookery list, with our stable of authors, including stars such as Paul Hollywood, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Gino D'Acampo, and many more besides. And we are excited to have just published our 11th book with Tom Kerridge, entitled Pub Kitchen.
Other highlights for the second half include Sarah J. Maas's latest novel, House of Flame and Shadow, which is the third in the Crescent City series, The Harry Potter Wizarding Almanac, Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell, The Rest Is History by Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook, and the next title in our best-selling children's series, We're Going on a Ghost Hunt by Martha Mumford and Cherie Zamazing. We have started the second half of the year well and are confident of achieving expectations for the full year.
