ESG Update

May 1, 2023

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Hello. I hope you enjoyed that video and that it gave you a pictorial caption of some of the key focus areas for Aecon's sustainability program, which we'll be discussing in more detail today. For those of you tuning in from outside of Aecon, I'm Gordana Terkalas, Senior Vice President of Human Resources, and I'm pleased to be moderating today's panel. Before we get started, I want to say right off the top that if we do run into any technical difficulties, we ask for your patience and understanding. We'll do our best to ensure a smooth event, but if we do run into something, we'll keep you posted either here or through your inbox.

If you'd like to submit a question to be answered following the panel discussion, just check the question icon on the Teams app, and you should be able to get through that way. For anything we can't get to today, we'll try our best to follow up at a later point. Additionally, I want to also acknowledge that Aecon's head office in Toronto is located on the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee, the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.

We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit. In addition to the land acknowledgement, we do want to also highlight that Aecon is very much focused on action, and we'll be talking about our Reconciliation Action Plan throughout the course of this session. We are Aecon proud to announce the release of our fourth sustainability report, Building a Sustainable Future. The report focuses on what we build and how we build it, focusing on projects to support the energy transition and ways in which we're reducing our own impact.

For today's panel, I'm joined by a few of my colleagues who are ready to have a fruitful discussion and answer some of the questions around sustainability at Aecon. Adam Borgatti, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Investor Relations. Prabh Banga, our Vice President of Sustainability, who spearheaded Aecon's 2022 sustainability report, which we're here to talk about today. Eric MacDonald, head of Aecon's Utilities Operating Sector, which is doing some of the most innovative work across the company when it comes to sustainability and the energy transition. Aecon has long been a sustainable organization. From connecting communities to clean energy projects, working around endangered species for decades, and spearheading forward-looking programs focused on diversity and inclusivity.

We have been working sustainably day in and day out. As we've evolved, though, we now have a true consciousness of sustainable practices. Backed by specific targets and goals, we are now more clearly defining who we are as a sustainable company. Let's dive in. My first question is for Prabh. Prabh, could you start by giving us an overview of sustainability at Aecon?

Prabh Banga
VP of Sustainability, Aecon Group

Thanks, Gordana. Aecon's sustainability strategy is based on our company's vision, building what matters for future generations to thrive. This encompasses two focus areas. It's the what we build and how we build it. Aecon is building infrastructure projects that are driving the transition to a net zero energy future from advanced transit networks and utility scale sustainable energy systems, all of which Eric will be discussing in more detail. In addition to the what we will build, we are also focused on the how and how we build.

We continue to integrate sustainable construction practices across our operations in support of our GHG emission reduction goal, which is a 30% reduction by 2030 in our direct emissions and net zero by 2050. For us, sustainability is a business approach to creating long-term value by taking into consideration how we operate in the ecological, social, and economic environment.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Thanks, Prabh. Adam, turning to you now. Can you tell us about your role as SVP Corporate Development and Investor Relations? How do you see it intersecting with sustainability? Also, give us a sense of what's the word on the street when it comes to ESG?

Adam Borgatti
SVP of Corporate Development and Investor Relations, Aecon Group

Thanks, Gordana. Hi, everyone, and thanks for joining us today. Look, there's no surprise that the confluence of ESG has been so pervasive in terms of the investor community, how that's been intersecting over the years, and the increasing focus on it. At Aecon, we wanted to make sure that sustainability had a mandate that received the highest level of our executive focus. In 2022, our sustainability expertise, Prabh's team and the like, were shifted all under the umbrella of a larger group that oversees and addresses all of our stakeholder relations, which created a lot of cohesion in organizational communication and relationship management.

I think first and foremost, our sustainability report this year was much smoother in terms of our processes, working with external vendors and internally, and it was a real eye-opener to see the power of Aecon's communications focus across our various verticals, and how that translated through to the report. You know, it was the start of something, I would say, very important 'cause with the formulation of the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board, under the guidance of the international division, we're now gonna see greater regulation when it comes to sustainability reports and more emphasis on the emissions and diversity and inclusion, which we welcome.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Thanks, Adam. we, Aecon, just released our 4th Annual Sustainability Report called Building a Sustainable Future. Why did you choose this theme?

Adam Borgatti
SVP of Corporate Development and Investor Relations, Aecon Group

The future is moving to net zero, and that's exactly where we are. We're there to support that from the projects that we undertake and how we're reducing our own impact across our operations and supporting clients. We work with governments, utilities, and clients across the private sector as they navigate the complexities of this energy transition that we're all focused on. Delivering essential infrastructure for a sustainable future is really an expression of our purpose. As Prabh addressed earlier, it's building what matters for future generations to thrive. Theme of the report being what we're building, which of course is a sustainable future, but also how we're building it, and it's by reducing our own impact.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Thanks, Adam. Prabh, can you give us some key highlights from the report? What would you say were Aecon's major sustainability achievements in 2022?

Prabh Banga
VP of Sustainability, Aecon Group

Yes, for sure. The performance highlight slide here shows our achievements across the multiple areas of environment, social, and governance. The report itself is organized into two pillars of our sustainability strategy, which is the what we build and how we build. In terms of the what we build, we highlight our projects across the energy transition, which again, Eric will talk about more later. In addition to the what, we are focused on the how. Aecon continues to build expertise in sustainable construction practices, focusing on environmental, social, and governance pillars. The report itself is organized with these three pillars and our performance across them. Within environment, we continue to focus on our emissions reduction goal, and we achieved a 14% reduction since 2020.

We've achieved this by implementing a lot of different technologies and innovation and trialing new technologies such as electric construction equipment. We also had a greater focus on using a framework called Envision, which is a leading sustainable construction guideline and framework. Actually 2 of our projects achieved Envision certification, one of them being Gordie Howe. In terms of the social pillar, we released our inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan, outlining its commitment to engaging in reconciliation across our operations together with Indigenous Peoples and established a new indigenous joint venture. We also procured about $233 million of Indigenous goods and services. This was our highest total to date. Aecon also implemented our Fatal Eight safety program and continued to implement it, focusing on 8 specific activities workers perform that present elevated risks.

Lastly, in the governance pillar, our ESG commitment was extended to our supply chain, and we introduced an ESG screening survey for our preferred suppliers, with the goal of having 100% of our preferred suppliers go through this ESG screening by 2025. On the government side, the oversight of sustainability matters moved from the risk committee to the entire board of directors. Lastly, we're Aecon proud to win a couple key prestigious awards in 2022, such as the Most Sustainable Infrastructure Company of the Year, one of Canada's Best 50 Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights, one Best of the Best award in the Green Building Culture Award category, and platinum recognition from ReNew Canada for delivering six of Canada's 10 largest infrastructure projects.

Gordana, I'm going to turn the table on you for a minute to talk about some of the achievements under the diversity and inclusion umbrella. A big part of leading Aecon's people initiatives is the equity, diversity, and inclusion function. Can you expand on Aecon's progress this past year in these important areas?

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Sure. Thanks, Prab. I'd love to. I'll highlight a couple of interesting and important initiatives that we saw come to fruition in 2022. First, we decided to focus our efforts a lot in training new workers from two historically underrepresented and important groups in construction, those being women and Indigenous Peoples amongst others. We focused in these two areas, and with the support of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, we formed a partnership that supported the training of an expanded number of cohorts through the Aecon Women in Trades program, which we talk a lot about. That's a collaboration with our union partners in Aecon's Training and Innovation Center in Holland Landing.

We were really pleased with the heroic effort by the HR and ED&I groups here at Aecon, where we were able to bring 150 women into the trades through the AWIT program and a huge foundational push on some important outcomes for our Indigenous Peoples in 2023, which we'll talk about next year for the 2023 report. Another key initiative that I'm really proud of is something that has been emerging and evolving since 2021, and that's the Champions for Diversity in Leadership program. This is a small, sort of organic program that is prestigious and unique in that it engages our most senior executives at Aecon to sponsor and be champions for 12 diverse and high potential mid-career employees.

This shift away from general mentorship to focused sponsorship is really powerful in creating exciting opportunities for our diverse community. I think I'd also be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the great work done by Aecon's Employee Resource Groups in 2022. We took huge steps to ensure the continued engagement and efficacy of our ERGs. We introduced executive sponsors for each group. We've been promoting the group's activities to facilitate recruitment of new members, and we're working to formalize their mandates to support clear, achievable, and measurable outcomes.

One important outcome, I'd say, in 2022 came out of the Employee Resource Group that is focused on disabilities, people with disabilities, that was the creation of a new workforce workplace accommodation policy, which is a more formal and detailed policy that comes with a specific role in shaping the policy, came through our ERG, and we expect that this will be formally adopted very shortly at Aecon. The last thing I'll mention, we're just about to close out actually our fourth diversity census in 2023, and that's coming off of a very successful census that we ran in 2022.

For the third consecutive year, we're seeing growing completion rates of the census, which signals trust, increasing trust in the survey and more importantly, the activities that come out of that survey. You know, a critical area of focus is how we're progressing in the diversity of our workforce relative to the availability of diverse talent in construction, which I know and we all know there is availability of talent. We just need to be mindful and deliberate about inviting new participants into the industry. As most organizations, our DEI practices remain works in progress, and we continue to take steps to accelerate our gains. It's a journey ahead, and we are well on our way.

I'm gonna take my facilitation role back here, and I'm gonna turn to Eric now. Eric, as Prabh mentioned, sustainability at Aecon is not only about how but about the what we build. In 2022, Aecon made great strides on projects to support the energy transition. As head of Aecon utility sector and lead on energy transition, could you highlight some of the energy transition projects we're undertaking?

Eric MacDonald
Head of Utilities Operating Sector, Aecon Group

Only if I have 4 hours, Gordana. Do I have that long? I'm kidding. Lots of good news in that area in 2022, I'll try to focus on just a few of them. One of the big ones is our Green Energy Solutions team that we stood up. For those of you who may not be aware of it, think of Aecon Group Inc. We work across a wide spectrum of construction but rarely did work within the home and within businesses. We've now stood up a business focused on things like residential battery and GeoExchange and geothermal solutions for homes and businesses, EV charging, hybrid heating in the HVAC realm. Important steps we've taken there to strengthen that team so that we can offer turnkey solutions there.

The highlight of that is, we've got really what I think are forward-looking partnerships that we formed with the likes of Enbridge, who has stood up a new business called Enbridge Sustain. As well, we've created a center of excellence around grid-scale batteries. I'll speak a little later about how that vision is coming to fruition now. We're working closely with our customers who are in the thermal energy markets so that we can bring solutions in renewable natural gas. Of course, for 20+ years, we've been working with our customers like Enwave on district energy systems, and that area or that sector of construction is now accelerating.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Excellent. Thank you. You talked about GeoExchange. It's becoming rapidly the go-to technology for commercial, institutional, industrial clients seeking to reduce their carbon footprint, optimize energy costs, lower or eliminate fossil fuel dependence, and meet their ESG targets. Can you expand on what Aecon is doing in this market?

Eric MacDonald
Head of Utilities Operating Sector, Aecon Group

Sure. I don't think I'll go into much detail on GeoExchange. I think at this stage of the conversation across the industry, I think people are aware of that technology where we use ground source heat to help reduce a building's carbon footprint. But a little bit about that industry and where Aecon believes that we're bringing an important solution is that was very much a small niche market for many, many years. As you go to start to scale that up, because you remember across. If you just look at Canada, there's something, and I'm sure someone will fact-check me on this, but there's something in the order of magnitude of about 10 million homes across Canada, many of which get their thermal energy needs from natural gas.

Of course, renewable natural gas will help address some of that, but there's certainly, it certainly is an increasing demand for GeoExchange solutions. We've taken steps to build up our fleet and build up our competency, find the right partners, including GSE, which is a certified Aboriginal business in Cochrane, Alberta. We started doing work with that group, we're very proud of that in an effort to make sure that we have a national solution. Everything that I've talked about here and all the services we provide are on a national and soon an international scale.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Excellent. Thanks, Eric. Adam, back over to you. The report, our sustainability report discussed how Aecon is making progress towards its emissions and emissions reduction goals. Can you talk about those goals and where we are?

Adam Borgatti
SVP of Corporate Development and Investor Relations, Aecon Group

You bet. So in 2021, we were the first construction company in Canada to set a GHG target with very aspirational targets in mind. We're also set up a sustainability-linked loan through our credit facility. Again, quite aspirational and measurable targets that we're trying to achieve. We've got one of our main targets obviously is to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 with a first milestone to achieve a 30% reduction in direct CO2 emissions by 2030, starting from a 2020 base. This is all on an intensity basis. We think we're well on our way to achieving the first target for sure. 14% reduction, as was mentioned earlier, in these direct emissions since we started measuring in 2020.

Slight increase in those emissions in 2022, which was expected as projects started to ramp up after COVID, and we had significant growth in revenue volume at Aecon. Still very much on a downward trend with these emissions, expecting it to hit our 30% target by that expected date, if not earlier. Lots of the things we're doing are continuing to push it in those areas to focus our business on areas with lower emissions.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Excellent. Thanks, Adam. Prab, a key highlight from Aecon's 2022 report is the comprehensive GHG inventory from all of Aecon's operations, which is a best in class practice. Can you tell us about the results of this inventory?

Prabh Banga
VP of Sustainability, Aecon Group

For sure. We undertake a emissions inventory on an annual basis, and the purpose is really to understand where our emissions are coming from. The inventory includes our facilities, offices, and major projects as well, and it enables us to identify our emission sources and really track the changes over time and the progress towards our emission reduction goal. From the inventory, we learned that over 60% of our emissions are associated with fuel and diesel usage across our operations. We also learned which pieces of equipment on job sites use the most amount of fuel, which really helps to prioritize our GHG emissions reduction strategy. Every year, we build on our inventory. In 2002, we further expanded our inventory to include Scope 3 emissions, which are indirect emissions.

These emissions are from our supply chain. From this we learned that Scope 3 emissions are our highest source of emissions, which is very true for the construction industry in general. As I mentioned, in 2022, we expanded our ESG screening to include suppliers as well. The motivation is really to build on our Scope 3 emissions and understand our emissions associated with our supply chain.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Interesting. What initiatives did we implement in 2022 to help reduce our emissions?

Prabh Banga
VP of Sustainability, Aecon Group

Yeah. What you'll see on the slide here is an overview of all the different initiatives that we've implemented to help with our emissions reduction goal. One of the key ones is definitely the transition to biofuels and renewable diesel. We see this as a transitionary solution as the technology with construction equipment continues to expand with low carbon options. We're focused on using transitionary fuels. We also want to be at the forefront of adopting and trialing new technology, so we continue to trial electric construction equipment. We trialed an electric wheel loader in partnership with Volvo. We piloted other technology to replace equipment across our operations. The use of solar powered generators. We trialed a solar powered light tower, as well as other solar powered equipment such as road signs.

In terms of our Scope 3 emissions or indirect emissions, materials is also a high source of Scope 3 emissions. We wanted to focus on the trialing of low-carbon construction materials. We did a trial with Carbon Upcycling, which is a company that has introduced a way of producing concrete with 20% lower emissions, and we were able to partner with them to do a low-carbon concrete trial at our innovation center in Holland Landing.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

It's amazing. I find this stuff actually really exciting. Being in construction for a couple decades, it's amazing to see the progress we're making, so thanks for that, Prab. Adam, are you seeing any sustainability trends that will impact Aecon's business? What opportunities do you see?

Adam Borgatti
SVP of Corporate Development and Investor Relations, Aecon Group

Yeah, absolutely. I mean, this is probably one of the most exciting areas that we're pursuing right now. Prabh and I have been meeting with a lot of our suppliers, coast to coast to determine where we can find new initiatives to work together, and we're really pushing the conversation to advance our own goals as well as those on behalf of our client. We've got a lot of opportunities in the pipeline right now. Definitely on the innovation side with our own operations, finding smarter ways of work that reduce waste, boosting efficiencies, and improving our outcomes. Key being harnessing innovation and being at the forefront of trialing new technologies.

In terms of reducing waste as well, we've got a huge initiative company-wide too focused on, you know, getting better waste walks in place and reducing inefficiencies in our operations from our Building Smarter team, which has gone incredibly well, and we're finding savings really from a grassroots level, driven from the employees up. We're really focusing on our supply chain, as I mentioned. Trying to work collaboratively with our suppliers and really going on the journey together, helping our emissions reductions along with theirs. You know, increasing our proportion of work in renewable and more sustainable projects. As Eric's mentioned, GeoExchange, LRT, nuclear work that's coming down the pipeline, really pivoting the business there, divesting of our legacy road business, most recently this month, and pushing towards the future on our energy transition goals.

We're gonna continue to focus on operationalizing our GHG targets. It's very measurable for us. It's very impactful. We aren't a company that just seeks out ratings and rankings. It's truly from a day-to-day, on-the-ground type level. You know, a great way to hear about all these things is our podcast that Prab and I host, called The Road to Net-Zero, which we love meeting with new companies, hearing about what they're doing and how we can do things together. It's starting to gain traction, certainly built on the strong foundation that Prab started with our colleague, Yoni Pushkin, that was here before. We're happy to take this forward into more successful and more audience take-up.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Thanks, Adam. Just before I turn to Eric to ask our last question and close our chat off, you'll notice on the screen is a slide prompting you to ask some questions. You can click the Q&A button and start putting your questions in there as you like. Eric, before we do that, to close off our chat, can you give us a sense of what we can expect from Aecon for the remainder of 2023?

Eric MacDonald
Head of Utilities Operating Sector, Aecon Group

First, Adam, that name you mentioned, Yoni Pushkin, doesn't ring a bell at all? I'm just kidding. I'm hoping Yoni's on. Yoni was important. He did important works in getting us all focused on this area. Certainly, Gordana, I'll talk again. We have a lot of different projects ongoing, a lot of exciting projects. We have a lot of momentum. I'll go through a few of them. We have the GO Expansion On-Corridor Works project here in Ontario.

Scarborough subway extension stations, rail, and systems. Part of our transit electrification projects. We have our small modular reactor project that we're doing through a partnership with OPG out at Darlington. We're really proud of the Oneida Energy Storage Limited Partnership, where our concessions group, upon financial close, will be taking approximately a 10% equity stake in that project. As well, talk a little bit about electrification itself, which is Aecon's taken important steps to strengthen ourselves in the area of transmission and distribution electrical, which is so important in making sure that we can get the power where it's needed.

We're doing work for the likes of Hydro One and ATCO and BC Hydro in those areas to make sure that we can get that power where it's needed. Again, when we talk about milestones for 2023, we're taking steps to increase the number of Indigenous partnerships that we have in place. All of this is backed off with what we believe is a culture of innovation, manifesting in things like our training and innovation center, which we use to test and verify new technologies.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Amazing. That's really exciting. Thank you so much. We're gonna switch gears now and move into the question period. As I mentioned off the top, questions can be submitted by checking the question icon on the Teams app. It looks like we have a couple coming in. Let me just take a look here. Okay, first question. Prabh, I'll direct this question to you. What are some of the examples of future initiatives that Aecon will be working on to reduce emissions across our operations?

Prabh Banga
VP of Sustainability, Aecon Group

Yeah, for sure. We're going to continue the trialing of low-carbon options for equipment with a specific focus on yellow iron. In the past, we focused on trialing electric construction equipment that was sort of on the smaller end. But we are going to be transitioning to focusing on testing out medium duty electric construction equipment. We have an upcoming trial where we'll be testing an electric medium crawler. We're also exploring the use of alternative fuels. In addition to biodiesel and renewable diesel, we're going to be looking at hydrogen diesel, and we're actually going to be trialing out a blend of hydrogen diesel on some of our generators. And then speaking of hydrogen, we're also looking at the use of hydrogen across construction practices, specifically for generators.

We're actually going to be trialing a hydrogen generator, just to see how it integrates into our operations. A huge focus for sure, in addition to the hydrogen generator, is just on generators in general. you know, as a industry, we've, you know, really used diesel generators across our operations, but we're looking at alternatives such as solar power generators, battery-powered, hybrid. We'll be integrating a lot more of those across our operations.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Amazing. Thanks, Prabh. Actually, I'll direct the next question to you as well. From the audience: Will there be any more offerings of the Envision training course in the near future?

Prabh Banga
VP of Sustainability, Aecon Group

Yes, for sure. We're definitely seeing an influx of Envision requests from clients, for clients to align their projects to Envision. There'll definitely be more training opportunities for Envision for our employees. It's one of the... I think Envision is really going to be a game changer for the construction industry as it relates to sustainability. It's one of the only frameworks out there that relates to sustainable construction practices. We'll definitely be integrating more Envision training into our training modules for employees.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Very exciting. Eric, I'm gonna, I'm gonna toss a question over to you next. Can you speak to the client dynamics and how clients are now pushing ESG initiatives, you know, relative to what they've been building over the years? How are we getting pulled in more, and what are the opportunities to support our clients in their endeavors?

Eric MacDonald
Head of Utilities Operating Sector, Aecon Group

That's a great question. I maybe touched on it in the previous question that I answered, which is it's more than just about delivering and executing on the work. It's also about the social compact that we have. Making sure that Aecon has Indigenous partnerships in the areas where we work. It's so important, Gordana, with the work that you and your team are doing and some of the joint ventures like Aecon-Golden Mile for marginalized communities in the Toronto area. These are all things we're doing to help augment.

Again, it will always come down to executing the work well, but again, on top of that, we can deliver a number of different benefits to our client, which I think in turn, helps them to make sure that they can get the approvals, and they can line up the work so that we, our crews can get out to work in a timely manner. We know in Canada, and I'm sorry to go on here, but in Canada it's extremely difficult to get large projects built. When we can bring other attributes like I referenced, I think it helps our clients smooth the way.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Thanks, Eric. Prabh, over to you for the next question from the audience. What would you say are the ways that employees are engaged with helping Aecon with their sustainability, journey?

Prabh Banga
VP of Sustainability, Aecon Group

Yeah, for sure. Employees are a key part of our sustainability strategy and really moving towards net zero and building that culture of net zero construction within the organization. There's a couple different programs that we've introduced to engage employees. The first one is called the Innovation and Sustainability Awards Program. It's a way for us to get ideas from our employees across our operations, across our organizations. Employees can submit ideas around innovation and sustainability. We actually introduced the program in November, and since then, we've gotten over 60 ideas, really great ones that we're actually going to be transitioning into pilots. Quick two examples. An employee had an idea of using QR codes as business cards to reduce the use of paper.

Another employee had installed solar panels on a water pump, and replaced a diesel generator. Again, two examples of how employees are integrating sustainability into our operations and submitting those ideas so that we can transition them into pilots and use them across our operations. We've also introduced the Green Home Energy Benefit. In addition to our Green Energy Solutions business, we wanted a way for employees to be engaged in our renewables business. We introduced this benefit so employees can integrate green options into their own homes. It's a credit that's given to employees for implementing a green initiative in their home related to climate change mitigation, adaptation, renewable energy, so they can apply for this credit. Lastly, we do provide training to our employees as well.

Envision is one of that training options, and we also have environmental management training. We recently did carbon literacy with some of our employees, and we're looking to introduce that across to more employees. We're also introducing net zero construction training as well. How to use electric construction equipment, integrating net zero construction principles across our operations, so that's something that'll be a focus for us in the future as well.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Thanks, Prabh. I would say, just speaking about employees and how sustainability comes into play in our employee value propositions. More and more, when we talk to candidates who are looking for a new opportunity in construction and are potentially thinking about joining Aecon, the conversation and the actual demonstration of true commitment and work in this area is becoming increasingly important to people. It's much more integrated into people's day-to-day work, and it transcends professional and personal focuses and commitments.

It's definitely a big part of how we operate from all aspects. Thanks, Prabh. Adam, I'll turn the next question over to you from the audience, as it's got a bit of a finance lens to it. What. Can you answer what % of the quarterly revenue are we planning to dedicate towards sustainability this year?

Adam Borgatti
SVP of Corporate Development and Investor Relations, Aecon Group

Sure. Yeah, I love this. This is the intersection of investor relations and ESG we were chatting about. Look, we've got about 60% of our revenues now tied to sustainability projects, which are dedicated towards, you know, renewable energy, clean water, and all the sorts of elements that make that up. I think we're gonna try and keep pushing on that. We don't really look at things on a quarterly basis just because the nature of our business is, you know, lots of major projects while mixed with some of the smaller ones and, you know, covering all manners of spectrum. When we look at things on an annual basis, I'd say 60%-plus we'd be looking at sustainable revenues, and I'd love to see that go higher, and we're pushing every day that we can.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Excellent. Thank you. I'm gonna ask one more question. I hope Eric will be kind enough to weigh in and maybe to open to the group to anybody who wants to answer. We touched a little bit on our Reconciliation Action Plan here at Aecon. It's something that a lot of people are getting involved in. Eric, you have dedicated a lot of your time and energy, both professionally and personally, to supporting Indigenous relations here at Aecon and are one of the most well-versed individuals I know on these matters. Can you tell us from your own perspective, your views on our Reconciliation Action Plan and what you see coming forward in the coming months and years?

Eric MacDonald
Head of Utilities Operating Sector, Aecon Group

Gordana. I'll try to answer that question. I believe there's lots of examples here at Aecon where we're doing good work in that area, and that is headed by John Bonin and his team, so very proud of that. I think we all recognize there's much more work to get done there. I believe we're all committed to that. I know that we use this example all the time, but Aecon-Six Nations, a joint venture, so extremely proud of what that team has been able to deliver. So when you think about that team delivering blue-chip utility solutions for a range of customers in some very technically challenging environments, we're just so extremely proud of that.

We use that as a template on how we engage. Engaging Indigenous nations, engaging their economic development groups to form lasting and winning relationships that brings value to everyone involved, including the clients. That is kind of a template, and the more that we can show progress in that area, the more it addresses the actions that are needed for Reconciliation.

Gordana Terkalas
SVP of Human Resources, Aecon Group

Thanks so much, Eric. I'm just gonna check the Q&A inbox one more time. I think we've gotten through our questions here. I'd really like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for joining us this afternoon. We'll give you a few minutes back in your calendars. I especially wanna thank Eric for joining and sharing his valuable insights from an operational perspective and Adam for your unique and passionate lens on investor relations and ESG and sustainability. I especially wanna thank Prabh for leading the charge for Aecon. All of your tireless efforts, in amazing work that you've done, research and recommendations, particularly for hosting this event and for publishing our 2022 sustainability report. Thank you all so much.

If you are interested in hearing more about sustainability at Aecon, tune into our podcast, Road to Net-Zero, available on our website, Apple, and on Spotify. A recording will be made available next week, both internally on Aecon's intranet and externally on aecon.com/sustainability. Stay tuned for that and feel free to share it within your networks. That's all for now. Thanks again, everyone, and please have a safe day.
