About Automattic
Automattic is the company behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, WordPress VIP, Tumblr, Beeper and a long list of other products built on open-source WordPress software. It makes money by selling hosted WordPress.com plans and domains, paid plugins and commerce tools such as Jetpack, Woo and Akismet, and enterprise WordPress hosting through WordPress VIP and Pressable. The company also sells advertising on Tumblr, paid plans on apps such as Beeper, Day One and Pocket Casts, and agency and hosting partnerships. Matt Mullenweg founded Automattic and remains CEO of the fully distributed company.
