About Carta

Carta is a financial technology company that provides equity and ownership management software for private companies, investors and their employees. Its platform digitizes cap tables and replaces paper stock certificates. It also handles related work like 409A valuations, equity plan administration, tender offers and compliance reporting. Carta runs a large fund administration business used by thousands of venture capital and private equity funds to manage back-office operations and portfolio data. The company makes money mainly from recurring software subscriptions that scale with a customer's size and stage, plus fund administration fees tied to assets under management. Originally launched as eShares, it has since expanded from startup cap tables into private equity, private credit and other private-market infrastructure.
