About Halter

Halter is a New Zealand agritech company that makes solar-powered smart collars for cattle. The collars use GPS, sound cues and gentle vibrations to keep cows inside virtual fences that farmers draw and move from a phone app, replacing physical fencing. The system also guides herd movements and monitors each animal's health and behavior, with newer collars connecting directly to satellites so ranches need no on-site towers. Halter makes money by charging ranchers and dairy farmers a monthly per-cow subscription. It serves thousands of farms across New Zealand, Australia and the United States and has sold over one million collars. Founder and CEO Craig Piggott started the company in 2016 after leaving rocket maker Rocket Lab, whose founder Peter Beck became an early backer.
