About Nous Research
Nous Research is an open-source artificial intelligence lab that builds large language models and the decentralized infrastructure used to train them. Its flagship product is Hermes, a family of open-weight models and an AI agent that can run locally, on a private server or through a hosted cloud service. The company also develops Psyche, a network that trains models across GPUs spread over the open internet using its DisTrO optimizer, with the Solana blockchain coordinating the work. Nous Research makes money by selling subscription access to its cloud-hosted Hermes agent while keeping the underlying model weights free to download. It positions its open, neutrally-aligned models as an alternative to the closed systems built by labs like OpenAI and Anthropic.
