About Profound

Profound is a marketing platform that helps brands understand and improve how they appear inside AI assistants like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. As consumers increasingly begin their product research in AI chatbots instead of traditional search engines, Profound tracks how often and in what context these models mention a brand and surfaces the prompts that buyers use to research products. It then recommends content and deploys agents to make a brand more likely to be mentioned and described favorably in AI answers. This emerging discipline is known as answer engine optimization, also called generative engine optimization. Profound makes money by selling enterprise subscriptions to its cloud platform. Its customers include Comcast, Walmart and The Estée Lauder Companies. The company was founded in 2024 by James Cadwallader and Dylan Babbs, who met at the startup community South Park Commons. Cadwallader previously founded the influencer marketing agency Kyra.
