About Scale AI
Scale AI is a data and artificial intelligence company that provides the training data, model evaluation and infrastructure used to build advanced AI systems. Its core business is a "data foundry" that pairs software with a large global workforce of human experts to label images, text, video and sensor data and to generate high-quality data for training and fine-tuning large language models. The company has since expanded into model testing and safety, along with an applications business that helps enterprises and government agencies put AI into production. Scale makes money by charging customers for these data, evaluation and deployment services. Its clients include leading AI labs, large enterprises and U.S. government and defense agencies. Scale was founded in 2016 by Alexandr Wang and Lucy Guo and is headquartered in San Francisco. In June 2025, Meta took a 49% stake through a $14.3 billion investment that valued Scale at more than $29 billion. As part of the deal, founder Alexandr Wang left to become Meta's chief AI officer.
