Nvidia to invest $3B in Meta's planned equity offering
Nvidia (NVDA) and Meta Platforms (META) have come to an agreement: Nvidia intends to invest $3B in Meta's $37.5B stock sale, part of a planned $97.5B equity financing, and Meta plans to deepen the collaboration by increasing the deployment of Nvidia infrastructure (1, 2).
- Nvidia plans to invest $3B in Meta's equity offering, about 3% of the total planned financing. Meta, in turn, plans to partner with Nvidia to expand and improve inference and training performance in the Muse AI model family (1, 2).
- The partnership includes Meta's strategic deployment of Nvidia infrastructure, including Vera Rubin and Vera CPUs, and will deploy Spectrum-X Ethernet networking and BlueField-4 (2).
- The deal comes six weeks after Meta's newest AI offering, Muse, made its debut, highlighting the tech giant's aggressive push into autonomous consumer-facing AI (3).
- Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's founder and CEO, characterized Muse as "how we bring personal superintelligence to everyone." Shares of Meta climbed as much as 35.9% in September following Muse's launch, but have since fallen 13.9% in October (2, 4).
- Meta's October 26 offering priced the Class A common-stock tranche at $625.00 per share, alongside 250M Series A depositary shares at $50 each. This equity offering comes less than six months after it closed a $25B bond sale in May (1, 5).
- The equity offering is unfolding as debt financing has gotten pricier. Global corporate credit spreads hit a 17-month high in the midst of AI-spending fears, Bloomberg reports (6).
