About CScale
CScale is a semiconductor startup developing optical interconnect technology that links the accelerator chips inside large AI clusters. Its product is an integrated light engine that puts lasers on the chip and uses fiber instead of copper to connect thousands of accelerators across dozens of racks. The design is meant to contain laser failures without interrupting compute, which the company sees as critical in gigawatt-scale AI data centers. CScale plans to make money by selling these interconnect chips to builders of AI systems and data centers. It has proof-of-concept systems with customers and plans to ship its chips by 2028. The company was founded in 2023 by Sanjai Kohli, co-founder of GPS chip pioneer SiRF, and is led by CEO Martin Lund, who previously ran Cisco's Common Hardware Group and Broadcom's switching business.
