About Lightmatter
Lightmatter is a company that builds light-based chips and interconnects designed to move and process data inside artificial intelligence data centers. Its flagship product, Passage, is a 3D-stacked photonics engine that uses silicon photonics to connect large numbers of processors with light, increasing bandwidth and reducing power consumption compared with conventional electrical wiring. The company also develops optical interconnect technology that links GPUs and switches across AI clusters. Lightmatter makes money by selling its photonic hardware and engines to cloud providers and chipmakers who deploy them in high-performance computing and AI infrastructure. The company was founded in 2017 by MIT researchers Nicholas Harris, Darius Bunandar and Thomas Graham, and is headquartered in Mountain View, California.
