About Current
Current is a consumer fintech company whose mobile banking app is aimed at Americans who live paycheck to paycheck. Accounts carry no monthly fee or minimum balance and come with a Visa debit card, direct deposit up to two days early, fee-free overdraft up to $200, Savings Pods paying a bonus rate on up to $6,000 and fee-free crypto trading powered by Zero Hash. Its two signature products are Paycheck Advance, which fronts eligible members up to $750 of earned wages before payday, and the Build Card, a secured Visa charge card that spends only money already sitting in the account and reports payments to the credit bureaus. Current makes money by taking a share of the Visa interchange on card spending, from optional instant-delivery fees on Paycheck Advance, from a $10 per month Current Max subscription and from the spread on crypto trades. Current is not a bank. Deposits are held by partner banks Choice Financial Group and Cross River Bank, but the company built and runs its own banking core rather than renting one from a third-party processor.
