About Generalist
Generalist is an artificial intelligence company building embodied foundation models that give robots the general-purpose intelligence to operate in the physical world. Its GEN series of models is designed to control many different kinds of robotic hardware rather than a single machine, and its latest GEN-1.5 model can learn a new manipulation task from as little as 12 seconds of demonstration. The company trains these models on a large proprietary dataset of real-world robot interaction data that it collects at industrial scale. Generalist is still pre-commercial and works with a small number of customers, and it intends to make money by supplying its models to the robot makers and operators that deploy them across factories, warehouses, labs and homes. It was founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind researchers Pete Florence and Andy Zeng along with former Boston Dynamics engineer Andrew Barry.
