About Mapbox
Mapbox is a location platform that gives software developers the building blocks to put maps, navigation and location search inside their own applications. Its cloud-based APIs and SDKs cover custom map rendering, turn-by-turn directions with live traffic, geocoding and geospatial data, and they power location features for companies like Toyota, BMW, General Motors, Instacart, Strava and Tripadvisor. Mapbox makes money by charging usage-based fees for its APIs and SDKs along with enterprise contracts, and the automotive industry has become a major business line through embedded navigation systems and its MapGPT voice assistant. The company grew out of Development Seed, a Washington, D.C. consultancy, and is backed by SoftBank, which led its two largest funding rounds.
