About Niantic
Niantic is a geospatial AI company that builds 3D maps and positioning technology for robots, drones and augmented reality devices. Now operating as Niantic Spatial, it develops a Large Geospatial Model trained on billions of real-world images. It also runs a Visual Positioning System that pinpoints a device's location and orientation from what its camera sees, even where GPS fails. The company makes money by selling its Scaniverse 3D scanning platform and spatial intelligence services to enterprise customers in robotics, defense, construction, logistics and energy. Niantic is best known as the creator of Pokémon GO. It sold its games business to Scopely for $3.5 billion in 2025 and spun off its mapping technology into Niantic Spatial.
