About Northwood Space
Northwood Space is a company that builds and operates ground stations, the antennas that send data to and from satellites in orbit. Its main product is Portal, a phased array system that steers beams electronically and can connect with multiple satellites at once across low, medium and geostationary orbits. The company mass produces these systems at a 35,000 square foot factory in Torrance, California and can install a new site in less than a day. Northwood makes money by selling capacity on its shared ground network to commercial satellite operators and government customers. That includes a $49.8 million contract with the US Space Force to expand the Satellite Control Network. It was co-founded Bridgit Mendler, a former Disney Channel actress and singer.
