About Starcloud

Starcloud is a space infrastructure company that designs, builds and deploys data centers in orbit. The company argues that falling launch costs make space a cheaper place to run large AI compute clusters, since orbital data centers can draw continuous solar power and shed heat through radiative cooling while avoiding the land, energy and permitting constraints facing data centers on Earth. Starcloud launched its first satellite, Starcloud-1, in November 2025 with an Nvidia H100 GPU on board and used it to train an AI model in space for the first time. Starcloud makes money by selling orbital computing capacity to cloud and AI customers, with plans to scale its satellite constellation to gigawatt-level compute. The company was founded in January 2024 under the name Lumen Orbit, went through Y Combinator and became the fastest company in the accelerator's history to reach a $1 billion valuation.
