About Venus Aerospace
Venus Aerospace is a propulsion startup that builds rotating detonation rocket engines for defense and space applications. Its RDRE burns propellant in a continuous supersonic detonation wave, a design the company says is more efficient than conventional rocket engines. In May 2025 Venus completed the world's first flight test of a high-thrust RDRE. The company makes money by developing and supplying its propulsion systems to defense and space customers. Its backers include Lockheed Martin Ventures. Venus is also developing the VDR2, a detonation ramjet that combines the RDRE with a ramjet so a single engine can power an aircraft from takeoff to hypersonic cruise. The company was founded in 2020 by the husband and wife team of Sassie and Andrew Duggleby and operates from the Houston Spaceport.
