Bank of Greece provides various financial products and services in Greece.
It participates in the formulation and implementation of the single monetary policy in the euro area; manages part of the European Central Bank’s foreign exchange and gold reserves; oversees payment and settlement systems; promotes arrangements for the maintenance of financial stability; manages financial crises; collects statistical data from monetary financial institutions; issues euro banknotes; and circulates and handles euro banknotes and coins.
The company also supervises credit institutions and various enterprises in the financial sector; supervises and monitors insurance and reinsurance firms, as well as insurance intermediaries; and manages and operates the system for monitoring transactions in book-entry securities.
In addition, it operates the Electronic Secondary Market for Securities system; holds and manages the country’s official reserve assets, such as the foreign exchange and gold reserves; acts as treasurer and fiscal agent for the government; compiles and publishes statistics on the Greek economy; conducts specialized statistical surveys; and publishes reports and carries out policy-relevant research and analysis of the economic conjuncture and the monetary policy.
