About Cowboy Space
Cowboy Space is an orbital infrastructure company that builds rockets and solar-powered data centers in space. The company designs its launch vehicle and data center as a single system, so the upper stage of each rocket becomes a 1-megawatt data center once it reaches orbit. It is developing a satellite constellation called Stampede that harnesses solar energy to run AI compute in low Earth orbit using NVIDIA Space-1 Vera Rubin modules. It has filed with the FCC for up to 20,000 of these satellites. Cowboy Space plans to make money by selling in-orbit AI computing capacity, bypassing the power and construction constraints that limit data centers on Earth. The company was founded in 2024 as Aetherflux, a space-based solar power startup, by Baiju Bhatt, the billionaire co-founder of Robinhood. It rebranded to Cowboy Space in May 2026 alongside its pivot to orbital data centers.
