HackerNoon is an independent technology publishing platform where more than 45,000 contributing writers publish stories for over 4 million monthly readers. Every story is reviewed and edited by a human editor before it goes live. The company makes money through business blogging, where companies pay to publish and distribute posts on the platform, along with targeted ad placements and sponsored writing contests. It runs on a custom content management system that also powers hundreds of smaller niche tech sites. Instead of raising venture capital, HackerNoon has raised about $2.9 million from more than 1,300 shareholders, most of them readers who invested in its 2019 equity crowdfunding, plus strategic investments from Coil and Arweave's Forward Research.
