About SambaNova Systems
SambaNova Systems is an artificial intelligence company that builds chips and complete computing systems for running AI models. Its custom processor, called the Reconfigurable Dataflow Unit (RDU), is designed for AI inference, the stage where trained models generate answers for users. The company positions its hardware as a faster and more power-efficient alternative to Nvidia GPUs. SambaNova makes money by selling its rack-scale systems to enterprises and governments and by charging for access to SambaCloud, its cloud platform that runs popular open-source models. The company also has a multi-year collaboration with Intel to deliver AI inference solutions built around its fifth-generation SN50 chip. SambaNova was founded in 2017 by Rodrigo Liang, Kunle Olukotun and Christopher Ré and is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.
