How to Buy Cursor AI Stock in 2025

Cursor AI is an AI-powered coding assistant that helps developers increase productivity and build software faster.
The product is an integrated development environment (IDE) with capabilities such as code generation, autocompletion, smart rewrites, and codebase understanding.
Cursor was developed by Anysphere, an AI development lab that's creating human-AI hybrid products for programmers. Anysphere was founded in 2022 and launched Cursor in 2023.
Cursor was an instant success, hitting $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in its first 12 months — the fastest SAAS company to ever reach that milestone.
And investors have been piling in.
In August 2024, Anysphere raised $60 million at a $400 million valuation in its Series A. Just four months later, in December, the lab raised another $105 million at a $2.5 billion valuation in its Series B.
Then, in March 2025, the lab raised another $625 million at a $9.6 billion valuation in its Series C.
While Anysphere has yet to mention any plans of a public offering, there is a way for you to invest in it right now — if you qualify.
Can you buy Cursor AI / Anysphere stock?
Anysphere, the lab behind Cursor AI, is a private company. There is no Anysphere stock symbol and it doesn't trade on any public market.
That said, its shares do trade on Hiive, an investment platform where accredited investors can buy shares of pre-IPO companies.

Can retail investors buy Anysphere?
Unfortunately, since Anysphere is still a private company, there's no way for retail investors to buy stock.
Additionally, since Anysphere has only received investments from VC firms, there's no way to get indirect exposure like there would be if it had received an investment from a publicly traded company.
At this point, retail investors will have to wait until the company's IPO to invest.
Alternatively, if you're bullish on AI-enabled programming tools, Anysphere is far from the only company in the space and you may be interested in investing in one of its competitors:
- Microsoft: Microsoft (MSFT) is a major player in the AI and developer tools market. Its GitHub Copilot provides intelligent code suggestions, competing directly with Cursor's capabilities. Microsoft is also a major investor in OpenAI, whose models are used by many of its AI coding tools.
- Google (Alphabet): Google (GOOGL) also provides AI-enabled tools for software development, including Google Cloud AI, Colab, and Gemini.
- Amazon: In addition to providing some of its own AI coding tools, Amazon (AMZN) has invested $8 billion in Anthropic, the company behind AI chatbot Claude. Anthropic also offers Claude Code, a version of Claude that's optimized for coding tasks (such as writing, debugging, and understanding code).
You could also gain general exposure to this market by investing in artificial intelligence ETFs like CHAT, ARTY, and AIQ or cloud computing ETFs such as SKYY, WCLD, and CLOU.
Additionally, you may want to keep an eye on the ARK Venture Fund.
The ARK Venture Fund invests in disruptive technology companies, both public and private. Its largest holdings are SpaceX, Anthropic (listed above), Lambda Labs, Hammerspace, and Blockdaemon.
The fund is open to all investors and has an annual expense ratio of 2.90%. Accredited investors can invest in the fund via the ARK website, while retail investors can invest via SoFi.
While it doesn't have a stake in Anysphere right now, the company fits the fund's investment criteria and the team may look to acquire a stake in the future.
Who founded Anysphere?
Anysphere was started in 2022 by Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark, Aman Sanger, and Michael Truell, who became friends during their time as students at MIT.
Cursor was launched in 2023 and reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in less than 12 months, with more than 360,000 developers paying between $20–40 per month for access (and millions more on its free plan).
A few months after launching Cursor, Anysphere was accepted into OpenAI's accelerator, which concluded with $8 million in seed funding led by OpenAI's Startup Fund.
Today, Cursor has around 40 employees and may be generating over $150 million in ARR.
