About Waabi

Waabi is a Canadian artificial intelligence company building autonomous driving technology for the physical world, starting with self-driving trucks. Its main product is the Waabi Driver, an end-to-end AI system that can operate a truck with no human behind the wheel. The company pairs it with Waabi World, a high-fidelity simulator used to train and test the driver almost entirely in simulation instead of through large real-world test fleets. Waabi says this "Physical AI" approach is safer, more capital efficient and easier to scale across different vehicles and geographies. It already runs driverless freight routes in Texas and is expanding the technology into robotaxis through an exclusive partnership with Uber. Waabi makes money by hauling freight for shippers and logistics partners such as Uber Freight. It plans to deploy its driver across both trucking and ride-hailing fleets. It was founded in 2021 by Raquel Urtasun, a University of Toronto professor and former chief scientist at Uber's self-driving unit.
